BAE Systems has delivered five variants of its Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle to the U.S. Army as part of a $383 million initial contract.
The Army will test AMPVs the company produced under the engineering and manufacturing design provision of a potential $1.2 billion contract that was awarded in late 2014 and includes low-rate initial production work, BAEÂ said Tuesday.
The company expects the program to obtain “Milestone C” approval sometime in 2019.
AMPV is based on designs of the Armored Brigade Combat Team’s Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle and the M109A7 Self-Propelled Howitzer.
The Army will replace its Vietnam War-era M113 family of vehicles with the new multmission platform and has collaborated with BAE on a company-funded project to develop a sixth armored vehicle variant for Combat Engineers at echelons above brigade.
The sixth variant will be called the engineer vehicle and be built to replace the service branch’s EAB M113s.
