SPOTLIGHT Labs has receives a $195,000 contract to provide its blood oxygen monitoring technology in support of the U.S. Air Force‘s efforts to address physiological episodes on aircraft.
SPOTLIGHT will supply 20 SPYDR units and offer technical support during tests with T-6 Texan II aircrew under the contract from the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s Agile Combat Support Directorate, the service branch said Monday.
Second Lt. Jessica Farris, an engineer at the ACS Directorate’s Human Systems Office and program manager for the Pulse/Hypoxia Observation Gear initiative, said the device will be installed into the pilot’s helmet and situated behind the ears.
Farris added that technology is designed to collect performance data and monitor heart rate in flight to produce oxygen level readings.
T-6 instructor pilots will conduct SPYDR field tests at Randolph Air Force Base in Texas through the end of the month and evaluate the device in conjunction with an aircrew breathing system at Edwards Air Force Base in California.
