The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians has chosen Siemens‘ U.S. federal subsidiary to support the installation, operation and maintenance of a power farm near Murphy, North Carolina.
Arlington, Virginia-based Siemens Government Technologies will install and manage a 2,000 photovoltaic solar panel array for EBCI under a $2.36 million contract, the company said Thursday.

The company expects the project to be operational in March 2019 and to help power four buildings encompassing more than 155,000 square feet through renewable energy.
Siemens will help train EBCI’s civil engineering team to install, maintain and operate the PV installation.
The Native American tribe is projected to save more than $100,000 in energy costs a year with its future solar farm.
