Lockheed Martin has received a 16-month, follow-on contract to help the U.S. Army advance the development of software and hardware for an armored ground vehicle protection technology.
The company said Tuesday it will collaborate with the Army’s Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center to mature the Modular Active Protection System controller kit.
Lockheed will also integrate the MAPS base kit with current sensor and countermeasure systems ahead of the technology’s virtual and range tests on combat vehicles in 2019.
MAPS is designed with an open architecture and to protect combat vehicles and crews against threats, the company noted.
The system consists of a controller, application software, a user interface and a power management distribution tool.
TARDEC received five MAPS controllers from Lockheed during 2017.
