Harris has unveiled a two-channel tactical handheld radio the company designed to help U.S. Army users transmit data and voice communications in real time.
AN/PRC-163 Army Radio employs a software-defined architecture that allows operators to integrate new waveforms and applications into the system, Harris said Monday.
The device is equipped with crossbanding technology for military personnel to communicate up and down the command and connect to various computing platforms such as Android smartphones.
The new radio works to transmit information via satellite communications, very high frequency/ultra high frequency line-of-sight and mobile ad-hoc networking networks.
Harris based the product on its AN/PRC-163 offering for the U.S. Special Operations Command.
