CenturyLink Gets DOJ Clearance to Sell Level 3’s Albuquerque Fiber Network Assets to UPN

CenturyLink has received approval from the Justice Department to sell Level 3 Communications’ fiber network assets in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Unite Private Networks for an undisclosed sum.

The transaction is subject to the Federal Communications Commission’s approval and other customary closing conditions, CenturyLink said Wednesday.

“Once the transaction is approved, we will quickly work on deploying 100 gigabit capabilities in Albuquerque,” said Jason Adkins, president of Unite Private Networks.

CenturyLink closed its $34 billion purchase of Level 3 in November last year and reached an agreement with DOJ to divest the acquired firm’s fiber network assets in New Mexico, Idaho and Arizona.

The Monroe, Louisiana-based telecommunications firm said it will continue to serve former Level 3 clients in Albuquerque unless they decide to avail of UPN’s services upon the deal’s closure and that the transaction will not impact Albuquerque-based business assets and networks run by CenturyLink prior to the acquisition.

CenturyLink also received DOJ approval to offer Level 3’s network assets in Boise, Idaho, to Syringa Networks.
