Boeing is in talks with the South Korean government on the company’s plan to build a new research center in the East Asian country.
The research center will support the development of technologies that can be integrated into future aerospace products such as autonomy, artificial intelligence, avionics, analytics, smart cabin and smart factory, Boeing said Wednesday.
Eric John, president of Boeing’s South Korean arm, said the center will serve as a testbed “for Boeing to collaborate and develop future technologies with many leading organizations in Korea.”
John added that new facility will create advanced engineering jobs in the country.
Boeing plans to open the center later this year and recruit local technology experts to work at the facility.
The company started its South Korean operations in 1988 and now employs more than 200 personnel in nine cities.
