Delegates from eight foreign countries observed a recent U.S. Army-led demonstration of Raytheon‘s updated air and missile defense system.
A team of Army soldiers engaged two tactical ballistic missile targets using Global Patriot interceptors with the Post Deployment Build 8 configuration during a live-fire test, Raytheon said Monday.
Global Patriot uses radar and command-and-control technologies to guide multiple interceptor types in countering ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, drones, aircraft and other launched aerial threats.
Raytheon noted the PDB-8 configuration features updated “friend or foe” identification, target detection and identification and radar search capacities.
The updated system employs a new fire solution computer built to support PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement interceptors and a weapons control computer designed to increase software processing power by 50 percent.
The Army and its international Patriot partners aim to implement PDB-8 later this year.
