Vencore‘s research arm has received a $4.1 million prime contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to develop tools for military personnel to secure information they share through smartphones.
The company said Monday that Vencore Labs will provide technologies for new security models under the first phase of DARPA’s three-year Secure Handhelds on Assured Resilient networks at the tactical Edge initiative.
DARPA’s SHARE program aims to help coalitions exchange information across multiple security classification levels using commercial handheld devices.
Vencore Labs will design and build Verifiably Secure Named Data Networking-based Coalition Networks through the program to help facilitate protected data sharing between U.S. and allied forces in tactical environments.
VeriNet will employ an interface designed for tactical users as well as networking tools based on NDN.
The company noted its research team will also develop rapid deployment platforms for coalitions that observe information sharing rules and help them ensure correctness of coalition configurations.
