Orbital ATK has showcased its side-mounted airborne gun platform to Asia-Pacific customers at the 2018 Singapore Airshow, AIN Online reported Sunday.
Byron Foster, a director at Orbital ATK, said the company sees opportunities to sell the 30mm Palletized Weapon System to customers in the region.
“There are threats such as those in north Asia that make it more palatable for Asian countries to defend ground operations with persistent over-watch capability,” said Foster.
He added that Orbital ATK does not offer a weapon system that can penetrate dense jungle environments, but the company is working to address this challenge.
PaWS is designed to support installation on medium- to heavy-lift cargo aircraft, including Leonardo‘s C-27J Spartan, Lockheed Martin‘s C-130 Hercules and Airbus‘ CN235/295 aircraft.
