Mitre Appoints 5 to Visiting Fellows Program - top government contractors - best government contracting eventMitre has appointed five individuals to the nonprofit company’s Visiting Fellows Program that aims to help address complex national problems.

The nonprofit said Thursday its newly appointed visiting fellows possess a background in the organization’s strategic focus areas of national defense, cybersecurity and health.

Richard Byrne, senior vice president of programs and technology at Mitre, said the team will provide insights from industry and academia on national security, health, government stability and cyber matters.

Ashton Carter, former secretary at the Defense Department and current director at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, will serve as the distinguished visiting fellow at Mitre.

The nonprofit’s senior visiting fellows are:

  • Steven Boutelle, former chief information officer of the U.S. Army and vice president at Cisco Systems
  • Robert Darnell, professor of cancer biology at Rockefeller University
  • Rick Ledgett, former deputy director of the National Security Agency
  • Mark McClellan, director of the Duke Margolis Center for Health Policy
