A General Dynamics business unit has tested in Texas a remote video surveillance platform designed to support border security operations.
General Dynamics Information Technology partnered with Parsons’ government services business to help the Department of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection field six Relocatable-Remote Video Surveillance Systems in McAllen and Laredo, Texas, the company said Thursday.
The Relocatable-RVSS platform met operational requirements and helped improve officer safety and intelligence operations during the pilot.
Mike Cassidy, acting general manager and senior vice president for operations at General Dynamics IT’s global solutions division, said the Relocatable-RVSS pilot and deployment seeks to demonstrate the platform’s capability to support mobile and tactical surveillance missions.
The Relocatable-RVSS is a multi-sensor surveillance platform that works to provide situational awareness capability and help border patrol staff detect, predict and respond to threats in remote areas.
CBS issued full operating capability status to the General Dynamics-built RVSS platform in April 2017 and plans to field the system across the Rio Grande Valley in south Texas this year.
General Dynamics updated RVSS under a contract CBP awarded in July 2013 and has tested and fielded the system across 68 locations in Arizona.
