GE to Build Performance Mgmt Tool for Navy Dry Cargo Ships - top government contractors - best government contracting eventGeneral Electric has received a contract extension from the U.S. Navy‘s Military Sealift Command to provide an asset performance management tool for the USNS William McLean and USNS Medgar Evers vessels.

The company said Monday it will deliver a Predix-based technology to help the Navy assess the health of its dry cargo ammunition ships and mitigate potential asset failures.

GE will create a digital replica of the Predix APM using data from the ships’ equipment, including variable frequency drives, propulsion motors, diesel engines and generators.

Predix is designed to compare the real-time performance of the cargo vessels’ equipment against the virtual replica’s data profile to identify possible performance deterioration, which could lead to system failure.

The tool also works to alert operators on equipment issues before a failure occurs to lessen maintenance needs and operational costs.

GE will perform remote monitoring and diagnostics at its Houston Remote Monitoring and Diagnostic center and will work with the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command to evaluate asset health and take measures to mitigate equipment failure.
