The FBI has issued a request for information on potential vendors of cloud-based infrastructure as-a-service, platform as-a-service and software as-a-service offerings.
A FedBizOpps notice posted Friday says the bureau plans to acquire PaaS and SaaS platforms from a cloud service provider with a large-scale commercial offering in an effort to comply with the government’s “Cloud First” policy.
The bureau looks to work with a CSP that can deliver on-demand service, broad network access, resource pooling and rapid elasticity as well as offer a catalog of application, data, middleware and operating system options that are regularly updated with new commercial technology, according to the notice.
A provider should also meet the intelligence community’s security requirements for handling secret-level data and be able to process petabyte-scale data volumes, as well as support application development, big data management and cognitive computing functions.
FBI issued the notice to also identify and evaluate major risks facing the planned acquisition; address potential barriers to competition; understand vendors’ information needs to aid proposal preparations; and determine contracting opportunities that can be allocated to small businesses.
Responses are due March 2.
