An Edgile update to its iGRC governance, risk and compliance content platform has found that 42 U.S. states introduced 240 cybersecurity bills and resolutions in 2017, up from 104 cyber measures proposed in 2016.
Edgile’s platform also showed at least 27 states implemented cybersecurity-related legislation last year, the company said Monday.
The iGRC database added various U.S. state and foreign law sources as 2017 saw an increase in regulation affecting U.S. businesses at those levels but a decrease in federal rules addressing consumer information privacy and security.
Lawmakers proposed bills and resolutions that sought to thwart computer crimes, restrict public disclosure of sensitive data and establish workforce training programs.
David Deckter, a partner at Edgile, said the company seeks to inform businesses about the latest data security and privacy regulations through the iGRC content platform as part of efforts to help organizations mitigate potential regulatory risk.
iGRC is designed to help companies manage governance, risk and compliance programs through models, approaches and accelerators.
