A new survey by cybersecurity company BitSight says botnets have become widespread among government contractors specifically for manufacturing and health care firms, e-End reported Friday.
BitSight polled at least 1,200 federal government contractors and found that health care firms have recorded a data breach incidence rate of 8.2 percent since January 2016, followed by aerospace and defense contractors at 5.6 percent and technology companies at 4.3 percent.
“Not only can these breaches often affect government and private sector employees, they may expose data that is fundamental to national security,” according to the report.
The report also showed that nearly one in five users at A&D companies and technology firms have an obsolete internet browser.
The survey also found that many government contractors do not implement best practices for email security and network encryption.
