Multiple federal agencies have adopted Amazon Web Services‘ utility-based cloud technology platforms in efforts to manage, transmit and secure government data.
AWS said Friday it uses various tools and methods in a push to comply with security and control requirements under the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program and Defense Department‘s Security Requirements Guide.
The company launched its GovCloud (US) region in August 2011 with the goal to help customer agencies secure cloud environments and received FedRAMP authority-to-operate certification for the platform in May 2013.
FedRAMP’s Joint Authorization Board approved the AWS cloud technology for high baseline workload in June 2016, then the Defense Information Systems Agency granted the company provisional authorization to handle information at impact level 5 in September of last year.
In November, the company debuted its “secret” region designed to help intelligence community clients manage data across all classification levels.
AWS also partnered with service providers, software developers, software products and system integrators to offer new products and services through its partner network.
