The 10thÂ expeditionary fast transport shipÂ Austal USAÂ is constructing for the U.S. Navy was christened Saturday at the company’s shipbuilding facility in Alabama.
Austal said SaturdayÂ the futureÂ USNSÂ BurlingtonÂ is part of aÂ 12-ship contract worth potentiallyÂ $1.9 billion.
The EPF 10 christening ceremonyÂ featured Rear Adm. Dee Mewbourne, commander of the Military Sealift Command, as well as Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont) and his wife Marcelle,Â the ship’s sponsor.
The company delivered nineÂ Spearhead-class ships to support MSC missions worldwide.
Austal also serves as the prime contractor for the Navy’s Independence-class Littoral Combat Ship program.
