The 10th expeditionary fast transport ship Austal USA is constructing for the U.S. Navy was christened Saturday at the company’s shipbuilding facility in Alabama.
Austal said Saturday the future USNS Burlington is part of a 12-ship contract worth potentially $1.9 billion.
The EPF 10 christening ceremony featured Rear Adm. Dee Mewbourne, commander of the Military Sealift Command, as well as Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont) and his wife Marcelle, the ship’s sponsor.
The company delivered nine Spearhead-class ships to support MSC missions worldwide.
Austal also serves as the prime contractor for the Navy’s Independence-class Littoral Combat Ship program.
