The extended range variant of Lockheed Martin‘s Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile became fully operational on the U.S. Air Force‘s F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft.
JASSM-ER reached full operational capability status on the Boeing-built multirole fighter after the service branch’s Seek Eagle Office completed the weapon integration process under the Suite 8 Operational Flight Program, Lockheed said Tuesday.
The ER missile system is designed to strike targets at a range two-and-a-half times greater than that of JASSM and equipped with infrared seeker and updated digital anti-jamming GPS technologies.
Jeffrey Foley, program director of long-range strike systems at Lockheed’s missiles and fire control business, said the missile variant works to help increase warfighters’ tactical capacity.
The Air Force is also integrating JASSM-ER on the branch’s F-16C/D and B-52H bomber aircraft.
Lockheed noted that F-13E is the first Universal Armament Interface-compliant platform to incorporate JASSM-ER.
