The Indiana Department of Transportation has selected Parsons to provide design services for the SR 249 bridge replacement project that will cross over U.S. 12 and two railroads in Portage, Indiana.
Parsons said Tuesday it will also design a roadway and a traffic maintenance system as well as conduct National Environmental Policy Act studies, topographic survey and geotechnical investigations under the contract.
Work will also include right-of-way acquisition, public outreach and utility coordination services.
The new bridge will have a 10-span structure and a maximum length of 1,030 feet.
Mike Johnson, a Parsons group president, said that the company aims to help ensure safety of motorists and inspection crew throughout the bridge construction project.
Forty percent of more than 10,000 vehicles that use the bridge each day are freight-carrying semi-trucks that travel to and from the deep-water Port of Indiana.
