Kraken Robotics Evaluates Miniature Synthetic Aperture Sonar System on Navy Autonomous Underwater Tech - top government contractors - best government contracting eventKraken Robotics has integrated and tested a new real-time synthetic aperture sonar system aboard a U.S. Navy Remus 600 autonomous underwater vehicle in Rhode Island.

The company said Thursday its Aquapix miniature SAS technology features capacities to support minehunting operations at ranges up to 10 times more than traditional side scan sonar technologies.

The SAS platform can be merged with AUVs to perform operations previously conducted using side scan sonars as well as underwater imaging applications such as debris mapping, seabed surveying, offshore energy, marine archaeology and search and salvage missions.

Kraken noted naval operations have utilized ultra high-resolution target data collection strategies to detect and eliminate modern mines that have become stealthy.

Karl Kenny, Kraken’s president and CEO, said the company’s SAS offering will work to boost the safety and operational efficiency of minehunting operations as well as reduce the risks and post mission analysis time involved.
