David Melcher, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant general and former president and CEO of the Aerospace Industries Association, has been nominated to join the board of directors at Cubic.
Cubic said Friday Melcher will bring decades of experience working with military and government leaders along with a background in finance, program management and strategy development to the company.
The company is scheduled to present Melcher for election at its annual meeting for shareholders on Feb. 19.
“Dave’s accomplished corporate and military background will provide Cubic with guidance and insight to further strengthen our growth strategies,” said Bradley Feldmann, president and CEO of Cubic.
Melcher previously served as president and CEO of Exelis, the Virginia-based defense technology maker that was spun off from ITT Corp. in October 2011 and acquired by Harris in May 2015 for approximately $4.75 billion in cash and stock.
He also led ITT’s defense and information solutions segment, which later became Exelis, and served as an executive assistant for the Office of Management and Budget director.
Walter Zable is due to leave his current role as Cubic board chairman at the conclusion of the shareholders’ meeting after a 54-year career at the company.
