Curtiss-Wright‘s defense solutions business has launched a new program which will support a newly established suite of open architecture industry and U.S. Army standards for C4ISR and electronic warfare.
The company said Monday it will create reference implementations to help the Army Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center promote the C4ISR/EW Modular Open Suite of Standards for technologies including Ethernet switches, data storage systems, single board computers, power supplies and radial clock modules.
CMOSS looks to reduce C4ISR system size, weight and power to boost commonality between platforms that share software and hardware components.
“CERDEC’s CMOSS suite of standards will help drive momentum in the embedded industry … towards COTS-based open architectures,” said Lynn Bamford, senior vice president and general manager of Curtiss-Wright’s defense solutions division.
The report noted CERDEC participates in associated standards bodies to mitigate potential emerging requirements and technology issues.
CMOSS was also added in the Air Force Sensor Open Systems Architecture and included on the U.S. Navy Hardware Open Systems Technologies program.
Open standards currently under CMOSS include the Vehicular Integration for C4ISR/EW Interoperability, Open VPX, Modular Open RF Architecture, Future Airborne Capability Environment and Software Communications Architecture.
