Charles River Analytics to Develop Human-Machine Interface for Army

Charles River Analytics has received a two-year, $1 million contract to develop a hands-free human-machine interface for U.S. Army soldiers who operate in diverse environments.

The company said Monday it will produce the Supervisory HMI Enabling Practical Autonomous Robot Direction under the follow-on contract.

“Our goal is to develop controls that let robots seamlessly integrate into human teams,” said Stan German, senior scientist at Charles River Analytics.

SHEPARD will fuse multiple robot control technologies and combine speech and gestures to manage unmanned vehicles with the use of smart devices such as a watch.

Charles River Analytics noted it seeks to help the Army reduce the cognitive load of warfighters and commanders through the project.
