Charles River Analytics has started development of a virtual trainer that will work to instruct up to 20 students simultaneously on the maintenance of the F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft.
Wright-Patterson Air Force Base said Tuesday the company will combine “intelligent” tutoring, game-based virtual training and intuitive scenario editing in the trainer based on CRA’s Maintenance Training Based on an Adaptive Game-based Environment Using a Pedagogic Interpretation Engine technology.
CRA works with the Air Force Research Laboratory and the Instructional Technology Unit at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas on the two-year project, with support from the Air Force Small Business Innovation Research/Small Business Technology Transfer program.
The company seeks to develop a full-scope intelligent virtual maintenance training tool for any vehicle or aircraft after the MAGPIE transition for the F-15E is complete.
WPAFB added MAGPIE features high-resolution graphics and automated system feedback to guide students on maintenance procedures.
The F-15E maintenance trainer will serve to help instructors manage more students, enable students to follow procedures in real time and identify potential errors without damaging equipment.
