BAE Systems has demonstrated the performance and safety of a platform the company designed as a means for military personnel and vehicles to cross water obstacles.
The company said Tuesday a Challenger 2 main battle tank crossed the Modular Bridging System more than 22,000 times during simulated tests held at BAE’s facility in Telford, England.
The platform was also subjected extreme military conditions as part of environmental tests.
BAE also performed additional minor tests to evaluate the fatigue resistance of the bridging system’s individual components.
The company noted it spent a total of 28,000 engineering hours to complete development of the platform as an offering to the U.K. defense ministry’s TYRO bridge modernization effort.
