PV Puvvada, president of Unisys‘ federal business, has said he observed the U.S. government moving toward a comprehensive approach to modernize federal information technology systems, Federal News Radio reported Monday.
The Trump administration implemented initiatives to support federal IT modernization, including the enactment of the Modernizing Government Technology Act; the release of the finalized IT Modernization Strategy; and the launch of the Centers of Excellence initiative led by the White House’s Office of American Innovation.
“What is very good about the current environment is you have the regulatory side, you have the agency side as well as the congressional side all behind a broader theme of, ‘you need to look at modernization from a bigger picture,'” Puvvada told the station in an interview.
He added that the government needs to improve its program and project management practices to meet IT modernization goals.
Puvvada said he believes “modern thinking” is key to agile IT development efforts and accelerate the release of updates.
“You have to have this idea of you can integrate everything and manage the scope in such a way that you don’t have to get all your requirements done up front,” he said.
