The U.S. Transportation Command has announced its intent to award a contract to Amazon Web Services to provide commercial cloud services designed to host data classified at the “secret†level.
Transcom said in a FedBizOpps notice posted Friday the proposed contract will cover storage, virtual machines, internet protocol management and network bandwidth services.
The company introduced in November the AWS Secret Region that works to host datasets and workloads with the “secret†classification status for intelligence community clients.
IC agencies can acquire the AWS Secret Region through the Commercial Cloud Services contract, while non-IC government clients can use their own contract vehicles to access the cloud offering.
Transcom noted that AWS has provisional authorization from the Defense Department to offer commercial cloud services designed to accommodate impact level 6 data.
