Saab has received a potential $47.5 million to provide new Gripen E fighter aircraft equipment to the Swedish defense and material administration FMV.
The company said Monday the supplemental contract updates the terms of an agreement signed with the agency in 2013 concerning reuse of existing Swedish military aircraft fleet or stock.
Sweden’s armed forces will receive new Gripen E equipment instead of reusing items from its current inventory under the new deal.
Jonas Hjelm, a senior vice president and head of aeronautics business area at Saab, said the company agreed with FMV and Swedish military on contract terms in an effort to help address requirements and deliveries.
He added that the collective effort aims to sustain operations of the Gripen C/D fleet before the country’s air force receives and begins to operate its Gripen E aircraft.
