The government of Romania has signed an agreement to buy Lockheed Martin-built Patriot Advanced Capability-3 Missile Segment Enhancement interceptors and related equipment from the U.S. government.
Scott Arnold, vice president and deputy of integrated air and missile defense at Lockheed’s missiles and fire control business, said in a statement published Thursday the company is honored to team up with and support Romania in its efforts to defend its armed forces, infrastructure and citizens from threats.
The updated PAC-3 MSE interceptor has a dual-pulse solid rocket motor, control fins and actuators and uses a hit-to-kill technology platform that works to counter tactical ballistic missiles, aircraft and cruise missiles.
The deal came a day after Romania signed a letter of offer and acceptance agreement to buy the Raytheon-made Patriot integrated air and missile defense system from the U.S. Army.
The State Department approved Romania’s request in July to procure PAC-3 MSE missiles and Patriot systems under a potential $3.9 billion foreign military sales deal.
