NEC‘s Netcracker Technology Corp. subsidiary has agreed to implement additional measures to secure software products and service offerings for U.S. customers under a “non-prosecution” agreement with the Justice Department.
DOJ said Monday Netcracker would update data security protocols designed to manage remote access to business networks and transfer of sensitive information.
“As threats to our critical infrastructure increase, especially from abroad, these protocols serve as a model for the kind of security that U.S. critical infrastructure should expect from the firms they use to develop, install, and maintain technology in their networks,” said General Boente, acting assistant attorney general of DOJ’s national security division.
The department found during an investigation that Netcracker provided product support services from locations in Russia and other countries outside the U.S. while working as a subcontractor on a pair of Defense Information Systems Agency contracts.
DOJ added that authorities discovered multiple factors affected DISA’s security efforts.
Netcracker agreed to also share its updated security plan with other software vendors.
