Naval Group and Fincantieri have partnered to submit a joint proposal to the Canadian government for the development of a surface combat ship.
Both companies aim to offer Canada an “off-the-shelf” naval platform based on the FREMM multimission frigate designed for French and Italian navies, Fincantieri said Friday.
Canada intends to procure up to 15 surface combatant ships for the country’s navy.
The Naval Group-Fincantieri team will build frigates through an Irving Shipbuilding facility if the government selects their joint bid.
FREMM is designed to support anti-aircraft, anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare; land attack; and command ship operations.
