NASA looks to enter public-private partnerships with U.S. companies in a push to address technology and capability requirements for government and commercial space missions.
The space agency said Tuesday its space technology mission directorate will provide funds for the “Utilizing Public-Private Partnerships to Advance Tipping Point Technologies” initiative that seeks to address the directorate’s strategic thrust objectives.
Steve Jurczyk, associate administrator of STMD, said the Tipping Point solicitation opens an opportunity to expand current alliances with members of the private sector and meet strategic agency goals.
NASA considers a technology at tipping point if the platform demonstrates a capacity to advance into the technological maturation phase and a high probability of being integrated with commercial space applications.
The latest Tipping Point Appendix will solicit proposals for three STMD Strategic Thrust areas that include expansion of space utilization, efficient and safe transportation through space as well as increased access to planetary surfaces.
