Maxar Technologies, formerly MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates, has received SpaceNews’ “Deal of the Year†award in recognition of the company’s acquisition of DigitalGlobe in an estimated $3.6 billion transaction.
Maxar’s predecessor MDA closed the deal in October in a push to offer imagery, satellite and geospatial services across the government and commercial sectors, Maxar said Wednesday.
Maxar CEO Howard Lance said the award seeks to acknowledge the transformative nature of the acquisition by which the company will work to advance innovation and address clients’ requirements.
Marcy Steinke, senior vice president of government relations and public policy at Maxar, received on behalf of the firm the award from the publication during an awards luncheon held Tuesday.
“Maxar’s acquisition of DigitalGlobe was this year’s biggest space deal, both in terms of the dollars involved and its potential to be a transformative, more-than-the-sum-of-its-parts combination,†said Brian Berger, SpaceNews editor-in-chief.
Maxar operates with four business units – DigitalGlobe, MDA, Radiant Solutions and SSL – and has annual revenue of approximately $3 billion.
