Kai Tang, vice president for commercial strategy and operations at Inmarsat‘s U.S. government business unit, has said Inmarsat’s Global Xpress commercial satellite network is designed to address the growing connectivity needs of mobile government users.
Tang wrote in a blog post published Tuesday that Global Xpress works to eliminate complex tasks associated with the use of legacy fixed satellite systems.
He added that operators in the field can unpack, assemble and connect a Global Xpress terminal to the internet within seven minutes.
Inmarsat has spent more than $1.7 billion in an effort to deliver global connectivity that meets the data rate needs of mobile government users, according to Tang.
Global Xpress is built to provide a smartphone-like experience for high-throughput satellite communications worldwide, Tang noted.
Inmarsat’s Global Xpress and Broadband Global Area Network offerings are available on Defense Information Systems Agency‘s Direct Order Entry website.
