Huntington Ingalls Industries has received a potential $468 million contract from General Dynamics to support integrated product and process development work on the U.S. Navy‘s fleet of Columbia-class submarines.
HII said Tuesday it will help complete the design of the Navy Columbia-class submarines as well as provide component development, detail planning and technical support services.
The company noted construction on 12 Navy Columbia-class submarines will commence in fiscal year 2021 with the first delivery currently scheduled in 2028.
General Dynamics’ Electric Boat subsidiary secured a potential $5 billion Integrated Product and Process Development contract from the Navy in September to accomplish design work on the Columbia-class ballistic missile submarine.
“This contract leverages the productive partnership we’ve built with Electric Boat in the construction of Virginia-class submarines,” said Dave Bolcar, vice president of submarine programs at HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding unit.
