A partnership of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Microsoft will launch an information technology academy meant to train transitioning service members at the U.S. Marine Corps‘ installation in Quantico, Virginia.
The ERAU-Microsoft Software and Systems Academy will be unveiled during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Marine Corps’ National Museum on Jan. 8, the military branch said Saturday.
The academy will facilitate an 18-week program designed to give service members the technology skills required in the fields of IT, science, technology, engineering and mathematics before their civilian transition.
ERAU-MSSA will administer training in server and cloud administration; database and business intelligence administration; cloud application development and cybersecurity administration.
Trainees will also be educated on resume writing, job interviews, networking and creating LinkedIn accounts.
The program is intended to help veterans land jobs as management, business and financial associates and administrators as well as IT accountants, auditors, general office managers and customer service representatives.
ERAU-MSSA was established in 2013 and has graduated more than 625 students, with a 91 percent graduation rate.
The academy aims to produce 1,000 graduates every year and maintain the 94 percent retention rate of graduates who stayed in their industry jobs for at least two years
Marine Corps Base Quantico’s ERAU-MSSA is now accepting applications for the inaugural class that will start in January.
Applicants must be slated for retirement or have recently left the military in good standing to be eligible.
