A Raytheon subsidiary has been selected to develop tools for military planners to examine and address causal factors that trigger conflict situations as part of a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency-led program.
Raytheon BBN Technologies aims to use artificial intelligence and machine learning methods to produce a modeling platform for DARPA’s Causal Exploration of Complex Operational Environments program, the company said Wednesday.
“When military planners understand the root causes, they may be better able to recommend the best course of action for any given situation,” said David Lintz, vice president of Raytheon BBN Technologies.
The company looks to configure a machine reading system to analyze and generate human and machine-readable semantic graphs on the relationship and causal elements facilitating certain events.
Raytheon noted it will combine generated graphs with other modeling and visualization tools in efforts to provide military planners with the capacity to ascertain effects and repercussions of different courses of action.
