Boeing is scheduled to begin upgrade work on the U.S. Navy‘s F/A-18E/F Super Hornet aircraft at a company facility in St. Louis, Missouri in April next year, Flightglobal reported Friday.
The aerospace and defense contractor aims to increase the aircraft’s resistance to corrosion and extend its service life by an additional 3,000 flight hours under a potential $50 million contract awarded in April.
Dan Gillian, F/A-18 program manager at Boeing, told Flightglobal in an interview the company expects to begin integration of Block III features onto a modified Super Hornet unit sometime in 2022.
The modification package will cover new fuel tanks, Raytheon-made radar technology and Block II and IV integrated defensive electronic countermeasures systems.
