AWS Hosts Webcast on Military Applications of Cloud Computing Tech - top government contractors - best government contracting event Amazon Web Services hosted a webcast last week about the use of cloud computing technology to support warfighters’ missions on land, at sea and in the air.

The webcast, titled “Enabling the Warfighter: Bringing Cloud to the Tactical Edge,” tackled how cloud platforms could help the Defense Department sustain the U.S. military’s technological advantage with cloud platforms, AWS said Friday.

Speakers included Robert Work, a former deputy defense secretary; Travis Axtell of the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense; and Andy Farrar of the Digital Warfare Office under the U.S. Navy’s Office of the Chief of Naval Operations.

“If we create the cloud smartly – if we extend the cloud to the tactical edge – our operators are going to be able to deal better with extremely complicated and surprising environments,” Work said.

AWS aims to help DoD manage data across at unclassified, sensitive, secret and top secret levels through the company’s authorized cloud environments that include the AWS Secret Region.

The department also has access to various service offerings from AWS partners such as Lockheed Martin, Accenture, REAN Cloud, Smartronix, JHC Technologies and Enlighten IT Consulting.
