Peraton has secured a pair of task orders worth $12.5 million combined to support the Defense Department in efforts to open up electromagnetic spectrum for commercial use.

The Defense Spectrum Organization asked the company to develop and maintain a software platform designed to analyze electromagnetic compatibility and document spectrum analysis results under a three-year, $5.55 task order, Peraton said Thursday.

DSO issued the order through the Chief Information Officer-Solutions and Partners 3 contract vehicle.

“DSO’s continuing mission to relieve stress on the broadband spectrum by making more spectrum available to commercial organizations is very important, and we are proud to support it,” said Peraton CEO Stu Shea.

The company also received a four-year, $6.9 million task order to deliver spectrum engineering and relocation services necessary to complete the EMC analysis, as well as coordinate EMC assessment and documentation with U.S. military representatives.

Service branches will use data from the analyses to make decisions about spectrum sharing and share the results with licensees on the federal government’s Advanced Wireless Services.
