Lockheed Partners With 5 Firms to Pursue Canada’s Surface Combatant Program - top government contractors - best government contracting eventLockheed Martin and five other defense contractors have formed a consortium to offer a warship design for a program that seeks to replace the Canadian navy’s fleet of surface combatants.

The Canada’s Combat Ship Team composed of Lockheed’s Canadian arm, CAE, BAE Systems, L3 Technologies, MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates – now called Maxar Technologies – and Ultra Electronics proposed the Type 26 Global Combat Ship to the Canadian Surface Combatant program, Lockheed said Tuesday.

The BAE-built Type 26 vessel will feature the Lockheed-made CMS 330 combat management platform that is currently used aboard Canada’s Halifax-class frigates.

Mike Greenley, president of L3’s Wescam subsidiary, said L3 will work to leverage its companies in Canada to deliver systems integration support and marine technology platforms across the areas of infrared and electro-optic systems, integrated communications and platform management and torpedo handling systems.

The industry team operates with at least 9,000 employees across more than 40 facilities in Canada and maintains approximately 4,000 contracts in the country through its supply chain.
