Leonardo and Thailand’s Defense Technology Institute have signed a memorandum of understanding to offer in-country helicopter maintenance, repair and overhaul services.
The MoU also covers technology transfer and creation of MRO service offerings if the Thai government orders Leonardo-built multipurpose helicopters for military and law enforcement use, the company said Friday.
Brian McEachen, head of the Asia and Ocean region at Leonardo’s helicopters division, signed the agreement with Col. Tawiwat Veeraklaew, acting director general of DTI, at the Defense & Security 2017 exhibition held in Bangkok last week.
Leonardo has produced helicopters and air traffic control systems and air, naval and ground surveillance radars for customers in Thailand.
Thai armed forces also use AW139 and Super Lynx 300 helicopters from the company.
