Ki Ho Military Acquisition Consulting has selected Harris to deliver a system that can provide real-time satellite data collected from the latest National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration weather satellite.
Harris said Monday the information generated by the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite-16 satellite will aid launch decision making activities at Cape Canaveral in Florida.
“We are proud to work with the Air Force to provide information on lightning, high winds and other severe weather, which can damage space vehicles and their payloads, and put launch personnel at risk,” said Eric Webster, vice president and general manager of Harris Environmental Solutions.
The company’s WxConnect Direct Receive system will also work to provide detailed weather data from the GOES-16 for Air Force personnel in real-time.
Harris developed NOAA’s satellite ground system which oversees satellites and instruments as well as processes environmental information collected from the equipment.
