Craig Cooning, an 11-year Boeing veteran and president of its network and space systems business, has joined the board of directors at satellite communications technology firm BridgeSat.
BridgeSat said Tuesday it added Cooning as a board member as the company aims to build an advanced optical communications network designed to help address a growing demand for satellite data.
Cooning previously chaired the board of United Launch Alliance, Boeing’s joint venture with Lockheed Martin.
He joined Boeing in 2005 and held leadership roles such as vice president and general manager for the space and intelligence systems business unit and international CEO for the satellite systems arm.
Cooning spent more than three decades in the U.S. Air Force and served as director of space acquisition at the service branch before he retired with the rank of major general.
