A consortium of ASC, Navantia, Raytheonand Australia’s defense department has kicked off sea trials of a second Air Warfare Destroyer ship built for the Australian navy.
AWD Alliance said Tuesday it will test the NUSHIP Brisbane ship’s maneuvering, control, navigation and propulsion systems in the coming weeks.
The group plans to demonstrate combat and communications systems of the Hobart-class destroyer during advanced sea trials in 2018.
ASC acts as the shipbuilder in the alliance while Navantia works as the shipbuilder manager and Raytheon’s Australian arm serves as the combat systems integrator.
Raytheon will provide 10 key subsystems such as the Aegis Weapon System and more than 3,500 pieces of combat system equipment needed to establish the AWD warfighting capacity.
The Australian navy commissioned its first AWD ship HMAS Hobart earlier this year.
