Thales has inked an agreement with ArianeGroup to help design, develop, qualify and produce a telemetry transmitter for a European Space Agency-approved launcher.
Thales said Tuesday the Ariane 6 telemetry transmitter will relay launcher-generated data to servers on the ground throughout the entire launch mission.
“This contract shows our company’s ability to adapt to a continuously evolving space market, implementing new industrial processes and technologies to meet our customer needs,” said Eduardo Bellido, CEO of Thales Alenia Space.
ESA’s ministerial council approved the development of Ariane 6 to help the continent maintain its posture in the evolving commercial launch market as well as meet the needs of European governmental missions.
Ariane 6 will be manufactured under two versions including the Ariane 62 model which features two solid propellant strap-on boosters and the Ariane 64 which would feature four solid-propellant strap-on boosters.
The report noted Ariane 6 is expected to commence its initial launch in 2020.
