A technology trade group has issued policy principles that aim to advance responsible design and adoption of artificial intelligence platforms, The Hill reported Tuesday.
“As we develop and design AI, human safety will be at the center of that deployment,†said Dean Garfield, president and CEO of the Information Technology Industry Council.
The policy principles from ITI seek to promote commitment to ethics and use of representative data in AI development in order to prevent potential misuse of AI technology.
ITI also calls for government and industry to support AI research and development programs through funding, incentives and public-private partnerships.
The council urges government agencies to review existing policies and practise caution before implementing new regulations and laws that may hamper the responsible development and use of AI.
The principles also include the adoption of cryptography and other cybersecurity standards in AI development to protect personal data from cyber attacks.
Some of the tech companies that ITI represents include Apple, Google, Amazon, Microsoft and Intel.
