NATO has awarded Saab a contract of an undisclosed value to modernize three ground-based phased array radars that were built to help the Norwegian air force military detect aerial threats.
Saab said Wednesday it will update software and replace obsolete hardware of SINDRE I air surveillance radars in Norway.
SINDRE I is equipped with a programmable digital signal processor and radar controller subsystems and designed to perform three-dimensional surveillance using pencil beams.
Saab’s Norway-based technologies business and New York-based defense and security unit will perform the upgrades.
The company is scheduled to carry out deliveries between 2017 and 2020.
